Nexperia 90-264 Vac, 24 Vdc, 10 A, 240 W PFC and LLC reference design board

This user manual introduces the reference design board NEVB-NEX82016D and the integrated features combing with devices NEX83088 and NEX81915. These devices are designed to provide AC - DC offline power supply for Power Delivery (PD) chargers, industrial automation and control systems, communication devices, small motors and drive systems, lighting and display systems. This document contains schematic diagrams, test data, bill of materials (BOM) and board layout drawings.

This reference design is a Si MOSFET based high power density constant output power supply designed with Nexperia's turn-key solution, NEX83088, NEX82016 and NEX81915. NEX803088 is a Power Factor Correction (PFC) controller, and NEX82016 is a highly integrated and high-performance digital-analog hybrid LLC controller, while NEX81915 is a dedicated controller IC for synchronous rectification on the secondary side of resonant converters. Nexperia's power devices are also used in this reference design, including an 80 V SR MOSFET and a 650 V ultra-fast recovery rectifier.

NEX83088 supports high frequency operation, and with average current mode (ACM)-based on-time control, it reduces the value and size of boost inductors, and improves total harmonic distortion (THD). Valley/zero voltage switching of PFC controller minimizes switching losses and improves efficiency. Highly integrated digital-analog hybrid LLC controller NEX82016 only requires very simple peripheral circuits. All parameters can be adjusted by supporting the GUI, which reduces the PCB area. It adopts advanced multiple modes control which is good for efficiency throughout all load ranges.
 
NEX81915’s adaptive gate drive for fast turn-off at the end of conduction improves efficiency, and the interlock function for each channel guarantees reliability of synchronous rectification. Comprehensive protection is implemented in this reference design, like line voltage brown-in/brown-out, overpower protection, output short protection, output overvoltage protection, open-loop protection, etc.
