International Women in Engineering Day

TeamNexperia values and recognizes our strong females in engineering. And, in support of the 2023 edition of International Women in Engineering Day, brought by the Women’s Engineering Society, we are sharing the stories of our female engineers, celebrating their achievements, and hoping to encourage a new generation of females to take up a career in engineering.

Find out why they love what they do and how they entered the fascinating world of engineering and their words of wisdom that hopefully inspire you too.

I wanted to become an engineer to follow the footstep of my loving father and making differences that can contribute to society through engineering can bring a strong sense of personal accomplishment and purpose.

Shwu shares her story:

Why did you want to become an engineer?

"Growing up in a family with strong engineering background, I was inspired by my father’s passion in demonstrating how engineering impacts everyday life through his creativity. Well, that made me choose engineering as my career path because I firmly believe engineers do have a huge impact on the world. We use a unique model of thinking, know how to design under constraints, approach problem solving with the mindset of “There Is NO BOX!” And I am proud to say, “Trust me, I’m an engineer.”

What is your message to females out there who are considering a career in engineering?
Be sensible. Trust your instincts with engineering fundamental based. Stay committed to your goals and understand the far-reaching impact of your work on others. By doing so, you will earn the respect you deserved. Always being part of the team, engage fully, celebrate the successes of teamwork and acknowledge individual contributions. When faced with challenges, remain resilient, be courageous, and remember you are not alone. We continuously learn, grow, support each other. And don’t underestimate the female power in engineering.

How does safety play a part in your work?
Abide by safety rules protect me and my coworkers from potential workplace injuries. It requires strong awareness and commitment from everyone, and it should be a top priority. A safe work environment fosters positive morale and enhance overall productivity. And don’t forget, your loved ones are waiting for you at home.

As a mother of two girls, I have learned to strike a better balance between work and life. I firmly believe in the principle of "no pain, no gain." Participating in International Women in Engineering Day, I am proud to be part of a group that aims to ensure the best test control for semiconductors, thereby ensuring the safety and reliability of applications in our daily lives..

I became an engineer because I have a strong drive to make changes and improve the systems within my field. Safety is a crucial aspect of my work. I prioritize designing workplaces that prevent accidents and incidents, while also reducing the risks associated with human error.

To all women considering a career in engineering, I want to emphasize that despite the field being dominated by men, do not feel inferior. We are just as capable and equal to them, regardless of gender differences.

Our team would like to say to future female engineers:

Are you curious about how things work? Do you want to learn everyday? Do you want to make a difference to peoples lives? Then there is a you-shaped hole in engineering just waiting for you. Cant wait to meet you!
